Yesterday I was having coffee with a good friend. She is not a personal trainer. In a nutshell, she is working on the concept of “motivation” linked to a healthier life. At some point, we were trying to answer this exact question above. Why, if we know what we want and have an objective that we see crystal clear - eating healthier, getting fitter, waking up earlier, being punctual, stop procrastinating, creating our own blog, leaving that guy…you name it - we absolutely struggle and feel powerless when it comes to go and do it.
I read an article recently that states we struggle to do new things because that is exactly what we are genetically programmed for. Sounds silly and at the same time relieving (if it’s genetics…we are fine), but this neurologist was sharing the fact that as a humans, staying lazy in our comfort zone is exactly what we are supposed to do. The plan is species survival, and the evolution piece falls only on a few individuals that somehow finally overcome their genetic predisposition, go off plan and do something different.
After looking at this eternal question from this completely new angle, I came up with a few thoughts that I find… motivating.
